Institute for Multimedia Literacy

 
Founded in 1998 by the University of Southern California’s Dean of the School of Cinematic Arts Elizabeth Daley in conversation with filmmaker George Lucas, the Institute for Multimedia Literacy is an organized research unit dedicated to developing educational programs and conducting research on the changing nature of literacy in a networked culture. The IML’s educational programs promote effective and expressive communication and scholarly production through the use of multiple media applications and tools. The IML also supports faculty-directed research that seeks to transform the nature of scholarship within the disciplines.

Luna Insight

 
The College has a license for Luna, a storage tool for digitized media that is accessible over the web.Currently the College Luna database is the Art and Architecture Image Collection which contains more than 30,000 images and metadata. Users will also have access to shared content from other institutions such as the David Rumsey Map Collection and the Museum and the Online Archive of California.
   

College Collaboration System

 
The College Collaboration System is the central email, collaboration, application and file sharing system used by over 1100 Faculty, Staff & Students in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.The College Collaboration System is comprised of 4 primary applications:

  • Novell GroupWise 8 Enterprise Email and Calendaring System
  • Novell File Sharing
  • GroupWise Instant Messenger
  • Novell Zenworks – Desktop application delivery application
   

Qualtrics Survey Tool

 
Qualtrics, a web-based survey tool, is freely available to all faculty, staff and students in the College.
